| Cabarete
Years ago, Cabarete was a hide-out place for rich Dominicans families from Santiago and the northern region who built beach cottages to visit on long weekends and holidays. More recently it has been taken over by the tourist industry and has developed a more casual international flavour, with Canadians, Germans, French, Swiss and many other nationalities mixing with the local population.
It is a small, laid-back Caribbean beach village located only 20 minutes away from the Puerto Plata International Airport on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. It's a perfect tropical vacation spot. With its charming, hip ambience and a combination of relaxed and adventurous lifestyles, most visitors can barely resist the spontaneous temptation of extending their stay and just hang around the place for another while.
The village of Cabarete is spread out across the center of a gorgeous, semi-circular beach of golden, sun-soaked, sand, waves, crystal waters and winds, perfect for aquatic sports like kitesurf and windsurf. It is also an area where you'll find many restaurants, bars, disco's, and shops for everyone's enjoyment.
Over the past few years Cabarete has grown to achieve international fame, especially with a younger audience. The reason may be found on the town's beach, ranked as one of the world's top five kiteboarding, windsurfing and Surfing destinations. So good are the conditions here, in fact, that Cabarete is regularly a stop in International competitions.
Cabarete offers more than just kiteboarding, windsurfing and Surfing , however. Adventure sports enthusiasts come here for a range of activities including mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, whitewater rafting and the like.
Given Cabarete's popularity with the younger set, it's no wonder that the town sports nightlife as varied as its daytime activities
